As a deeply proud Canadian, most of my canvases depict scenes of my beautiful country from coast to coast. Since I am surrounded by mountains living in British Columbia above the Columbia River Valley, they are my go-to subject matter. However, the colour found in the Maritimes fascinates me, so you will find work from the east as well on my website.
I can’t say “I wanted to be an artist since I was a child”. In 1989, I was forced by my employer to take a weekend painting workshop, I attended, under duress. After that weekend I was hooked and soon began credit courses at The Alberta College of Art, until we moved to BC a few years later. I attend workshops yearly with artists I admire as I believe art is a continual learning and discovery process.
Oil paints suit my traditional painting style best, but acrylics also find their place on my canvases. I am a realist artist, almost exclusively painting places I have been. I love to elicit an emotional response with others who have visited the same place, or who have an understanding of the area.
Over the years I have had many group shows and several solo shows in Invermere, Radium Hot Springs, Kimberley, Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Cochrane. I was a juried member of the prestigious Federation of Canadian Artists for many years, showing both online and in the Granville Island Gallery. I have enjoyed teaching art and have seen several of my students excel and move forward in the art world.
I'm proud to say my work has found homes in several countries around the world since I walked into that workshop so many years ago. I had no idea that art would hold such a special place in my life - for the last 3 1/2 decades.
“Cecilia strikes a great balance between photo-realism and impressionism presenting views that are expansive and lush but that remain firmly rooted in reality” - Dallas Jeffs, Artist Run Websi
