Now I am no longer able to hike far, but painting is a great substitute when we go to Lake O’Hara This was a gorgeous warm day, and I had hiked to the end of the lake and made myself comfortable to paint for the day. Hikers would pass by as I sat on a well-placed carved log bench and enjoyed my awesome surroundings. Some hikers would stop to chat, others would quietly walkpast with a quick hello, and usually a photo of my progress on the canvas. I was able to paint until about 2 PM. Earlier that morning, the sun had risen over the mountains and was striking the trees across the lake, and the rock faces on Mount Huber. I had to place these shadows and light patterns quickly as they are gone within a very short time. Then I could work on the foreground and lake. By mid-afternoon the light had completely changed, so time to pack up and hike back to the lodge for afternoon tea.
